Nyah August, Resident In Counseling

Nyah August brings depth, warmth, and intentional presence to her work as a therapist. Having spent much of her upbringing living in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, she developed a deep appreciation for cultural nuance, adaptability, and the experience of navigating spaces where you may feel both connected and different. These formative years shaped her ability to sit comfortably with complexity and approach each person’s story with openness and respect. Clients often describe her as thoughtful, steady, and deeply attuned.

Nyah earned dual undergraduate degrees in English Education and Agricultural Sciences from Virginia Tech and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from William & Mary. She has experience supporting university students, international clients, trauma survivors, and individuals navigating substance use recovery. She also works with clients managing anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, self-esteem challenges, perfectionism, identity exploration, life transitions, and relationship concerns.

Her work centers on helping individuals understand the patterns influencing their thoughts and behaviors, strengthen emotional regulation skills, and reconnect with their core values in ways that feel practical and sustainable.

Drawing from Positive Psychology, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and strengths-based approaches, Nyah helps clients create space between emotion and response. Within that space, clarity and self-trust begin to grow. She believes people are not broken but often shaped by patterns that once served a protective purpose. Therapy becomes an opportunity to increase awareness, build resilience, and create lasting change aligned with who clients genuinely want to become.

Nyah approaches each session with curiosity, intention, and a steady belief in her clients’ capacity for growth.
